Charlie French is a 27-year old abstract artist currently living and working in Dallas, TX. He insists on calling his vocation, Just Charlie French, because as he writes on his website: Yes, I have Down syndrome, but I don’t want to talk about that. I don’t want you to see that. I want you to see me, Charlie French. Just Charlie French. Then I want you to see my ART! I am an artist, an abstract artist.

Charlie was creative and imaginative from an early age, writing stories and performing. His passion for art, however, did not develop until Charlie was a teenager. Around the age of 16, Charlie began a slow decline that ultimately yielded a second diagnosis of Regression disorder. During those very challenging and dark years, painting was the one activity Charlie could find the energy to engage in. While he has never regained all of his skills and abilities, Charlie has developed a love of painting that sustains him and enriches his daily life. Charlie can find humor, joy and challenge in his art studio. Selling his work on Instagram (@justcharliefrench) and his website (www.justcharliefrench.org), as well as completing commission pieces, provide Charlie with a sense of accomplishment, not to mention the independence of earning money: Art for dollars, he says, I like it!

Charlie has been in several art shows, and enjoys painting live, provided he has his microphone and speaker with him! In addition to painting several times a week, Charlie has taken art courses and worked with abstract art tutors. He continues to grow and develop his passion, as he shares his talent with the world around him.
